I am very pissed. I was advertising my works on Linkedin, with this ad:
Hi!
I'll start a promotion for the next month. You send me your mixed song and I will master 15 seconds of it FOR FREE. If you like, we can talk about mastering the whole song/album. Try it! If you know any band who needs it, please forward!
Here there is a sample of my work
http://myspace.com/luanamoreno
then this jerk came along saying that I had no capability to do what I was advertising:
"I don't see any capacity or even facilities for mastering in any of your web links... exactly how will you accomplish this free "mastering"? "
I answered something like: " I master at home with plugins and check it at many places to hear if it sounds ok. Why is the word mastering quoted in dittos? This attitude brings the industry down. Is that the fear of competition?"
See how the guy answered me:
"I commented because everyone seems to be a mastering engineer these days... "mastering services" are being offered by clueless 14-years olds with Dells on their bedrooms right next experienced professionals, and frankly I'm tired of ill-equipped poseurs watering down the respectability of the craft.
Mastering is a process requiring a certain working environment so If someone doesn't have the proper acoustic space, equipment, and sufficiently-developed critical ear to properly perform mastering, then it isn't. Mastering doesn't come from a plug-in.
And incidentally, there's no fear of competition - Blue Bear Sound is a Recording Studio, NOT a Mastering House... there's a big difference. (And honestly, if you were a mastering engineer, you would have already known that.) I work with a very experienced and properly-equipped ME in Chicago for all my client's projects.
Thanks for playing. "
WHAT A JERK! This is the typical studio owner who stands behind his desk taking care of expenses and profits and doesn't record anybody. Just check his profile and you will see. I hate this kind of attitude, that is what brings our industry down, one professional saying bad things about the other just for the fear of losing his clients. You can own a big studio with tons of equipment and if you don't have the ear and talent and don't treat your clients right, THE PLUGINS WILL SOUND BETTER. I saw it way too many times and I am convinced.
plus he did wrote these things about me not being a mastering engineer and then deleted and wrote back a new version.
This is what I wrote him back:
"Well, poor you tired man, because technology will not cease to evolve and good results will keep on being delivered by professionals who haven't spent millions of dollars but have talent and ear, the kind of thing that cannot be bought. But I don't expect someone like you to understand that.
I heard a million times this speech about the equipment and the space and all that I have seen is that good professionals deliver good work.
Why don't you keep on with your work and let other people do the same? If you took a look at where I work at and even listened to anything before criticize, I would maybe listen, but prejudice is a hard thing to move over. Oh, and all the comments you have deleted came to me by email. If you are not enough of a human being to stand for what you write at first, don't expect anyone to respect your opinions as a professional.
Take care of your own business.
and I am deleting this discussion, it is not my intention to take shit from any judgemental 'studio owner' who doen't respect other people or their work. I am not a 14 year old to waste my time on internet discussions or trying to bring other people down, I rather work instead.
before I forget, fuck you, pig."
by the way, this is the client page in his studio:
Clients
do you see any names you know?
now check the studio I work for:
Audiomobile
at the portfolio page. Do you know Angra? Shaman? Seal? Ever heard of the brazilian carnival? Faith no More? The Wailers? Have you heard about the Rolling Stones show in the Rio de Janeiro beach?
and I am not even talking about the brazilian ones.
This is where I wok. We master with plugins. I learned with these guys and now I do my masters at home.
So where's the results, on the equipment or on the professional?
xoxo
