Every day is a learning experience, that is something that I have come to accept.
One thing I haven't yet figured out is how to read people and their intentions.
Working where I work *mini detroit* I come across a lot of people on drug, a lot of people
that have fallen onto such hard times that they'll lie to get anything they can. Some of them
are pretty good at it too.
It brings tears to my eyes when I see people standing on the side of the road with signs asking
for food to feed their babies. Then again I wonder how much is really going to a supposed baby and how much
is actually going to a drunk habbit?
I have homeless people that sleep, eat and defecate in my laundry rooms here at work.
Every day is a struggle and I try to find the lesson in all of it.
For a while I was a bleeding heart, trying to help everybody. Prevented an eviction by finding charities that would contribute money to the residents, started an after school mentoring program for the youth and yet...over time everything has broken down and been destroyed by the people that just don't appreciate what is given to them.
Now I feel as though I'm cold hearted when speaking to residents and people that may possibly want to move in. In the back of my mind wondering "if I'm nice to this one, will it make a difference"....
I'm only one person, and I know I can make a difference...but without people to back me...I am unfortunately nothing in this town.
Just sad to see, and with the holidays coming.... :0(
