right now i'm watching my cat stare down two tiny birds sitting on my balcony rail. they're all just kind of hanging out. i don't think suri really has the killer instinct.
the community service thing this morning was nice. my group from the newspaper had about 15 people. our task was to plant flowers around this lutheran church - fucking DIFFICULT because it rained so much last night. the ground was soaked and by the time we finished 2 1/2 hours later everyone was covered in mud. the little church guy in charge wore a floppy fisherman's hat, spoke broken english, and walked around carrying this huge camera and offering everyone cokes. too cute. then some church ladies feed us lunch and cake.
i just watched this badass documentary the history channel did on che (as a history minor, latin american is my fav). it was really unbiased and painted a full picture of how che's communist ideals unfolded. it had interviews with one of the guerillas that fought with che in the congo and in bolivia (he was only 1 of 3 that survived when they were tracked down in the jungle), the captain of the bolivian soldiers that caught che (he was sympathetic to che as a man but ultimately ended up sentencing him to death), the current bolivian president, the author that discovered where che's bones were, etc etc. and so many amazing video clips and photographs of castro & che in action.
this clip wasn't in it, but it is totally relevant to... um... america:
i think if there is one thing to take from che, it's that the spirit of revolution for positive change has an impact whether the ultimate goal is reached or not. if a man can't move mountains, he can sure as fuck leave some marks on the rocks
