I blog on blogspot. So I figure maybe I should blog here too... hmm...
I gave my WiPS seminar today though, and it really well. I know the reason they have 2 hour sessions for these things is because they actually are supposed to be seminars for 'works in progress' you're gonna want all the time you can get for feedback on your paper, etc. etc. But when you are delivering a completed paper - man, 50 minutes is a long fucking paper! And I have the attention span of a goldfish, I can barely stand to sit through those things (haha). So I'm amazed that people will do it for me. I chopped out a fair chunk of my thesis to make it fit into the time schedule too. I almost started to bore myself (but not really, because I love my topic).
Nonetheless, my paper was received really well by the PhD and Masters students. I got a lot of positive comments regarding how it was structured, and on the clarity of my argument, blah blah blah. Lots of things were brought up for discussion, rather than me receiving any actual 'constructive criticism' (who are we kidding - its just criticism really). So that was a good result! It's nice to know that I managed to structure a clear, coherent argument on my own.
Results don't come out now until like the end of November I think. That's not too much of a bother for me, except for the fact that I will be in America. And I need to get a certified copy of my academic record to send away to the PhD peoples - and how am I supposed to get that copy when I am in America? FFS. Still I'm angling for 1st class honours. I will be devastated if I don't get it. It will fuck up all of my plans! I mean, it won't really because I can just do the extra 6 months for the Masters by coursework and then try for a PhD again. But who wants to do 6 months that they don't have to? Seriously.
In other news, the rearranging in preparation for the garage sale is coming along nicely. I say that, and we haven't even set a date yet, but never mind. I'm still not sure if the other girls are going to get their stuff sorted for selling, tossing, donating etc. So I'll just wait on that one. But the boxes of books are piling up, one piece of furniture is already out of the room (there are a few more), and I'm hoping we can lose a lot of our 'extra stuff' - there are two single beds which we don't really need (although we do have to find the correct bolts for them), there are a few OLD chests and drawer thingies which can certainly go, and surely there are more books and what not that need to be gotten rid of. Clothes, stuffed toys, you name it: it's probably in our house!
I like having tasks. If I don't have a task to achieve I get very irritable. Boredom and I do not mix well. So the garage sale prep is nice to keep me occupied while I'm waiting for my little holiday to roll around. Then it'll be the silly season, and that always goes quick (what with returning from America, graduation, my birthday, Christmas, new years, and work in between). Then back to January - when I assume we will finally be moving, if not before, and we are definitely garage sale-ing before then. No exceptions! Ahhh task master.
Well, I think that's about all I have to say for today. Shame really, because it only took me about 10 minutes to write this. But only 20 more minutes to kill. That's something.
