had the "No to Mcnulty" rally at parliament yesterday which was very cool, its the first time in ages that all the rail unions have come together to try to stop the biggest robbery since ronnie biggs and co stole the mail train.Quick explaination first, the Mcnulty report is a thinly veiled attempt to fleece the public and the rail workers so private companies can make even more profit by cutting staffing levels, reducing services and reducing safety and also fragmenting the industry and promoting a more profit led instead of safety/service goal system which is simple english is no staff, huge hikes in fares and selling the track to private companies even though the last time they tried this led to the ladbrooke grove, southall and potters bar rail crashes to name afew. The biggest steal is all the profits are sucked out and handed over to shareholders instead of being plowed back into the system..what we want is to be renationalised, and before people shout "commie" at the screen think about it...if they make 12 billion a year by running it and get 5 billion off the government in subsidies yet still the improvments that were promised have not appeared because the money isnt reinvested.IF and its a big if it was nationalised it would be self funded again and have the money to upgrade while not picking the passengers pockets
At the rally we had the speakers:
Mick Whelan....soon to be general sec of ASLEF(thats the one im a member of)
Bob Crow....general sec of RMT
Gerry Doherty ...general sec of TSSA
Maria Eagle MP... Labour shadow transport minister
Kay Carberry.....assistant gen sec of the TUC
After the rally we lobbied our own MPs and voiced our concerns so they had a busy day
Anyway left wing rant over and i'll leave you with some of the banners that were there
