My View
Every year I usually post a blog about how and why I hate Xmas,Shitmas and any other variation of this day that Jeus was supposedly born. Which, based on science was not in December, so like this country is a lie.
But, this isn't about that. I hate the commercialization of the holiday and people faking their happiness just for the holiday. I am for traditions. Traditions are getting watered down and disappearing and that sucks. And it has nothing to do with being nostalgic. I am not a christian, I denied that a long time ago, but if people need something to believe in go ahead.
I was brought up Catholic and for some reason at this time of year I want to see midnight mass in Latin. I don't want or need it translated into English. Not that I know Latin, but if I wanted to hear it in English, I'd watch the mass in English. I think this is partly the reason why I fell out of being religious.
When we used to visit my grandmother, we go to a Roman Catholic Church what's mass was still in Latin. It was in an old stone church in Connecticut, it felt like religion. Even though I don't know Latin and I'm sure most people there didn't you knew what was going on. You went in, did your praying, got your communion, and went home. No singing, no filler, just getting in touch with the deity.
When a Catholic church began near my parents house, it was in a strip mall, then a prefab metal building, then a multimillion dollar church in the round. It all seemed so fake to me. Even though the old churches that are made of stone/mortar and have real stained glass windows are usually massive and sometimes ostentatious, it gave a sense that you were miniscule compared to gad. True some churches today are massive and have big congregations, but I think they're that way to boast how much money they raise and not to make it's attendees feel small compared to their maker.
After years of putting up with an attempt to be religious and studying all discrepencies of reality and religion, I gave up on it.
I still think there needs to be religion for those who feel that they need guidance and answers to questions that can't be answered. I don't think it should control them nor should it make them feel compelled to force other people to think like them.
Ok, so here's where it doesn't seem to make sense, I think that stores should be closed on the major holidays, like xmas. Yes, it's a religious holiday and that's like forcing non xtians to celebrate it, no one says that you have to do anything other than take the day off and spend it with family, friends and people who are important in your life. People don't do that anymore, or maybe I just left out and don't get invited to anything.
This holiday has been the worst for me. Getting screwed over by a shitty company, my g/f being jerked around, so that technically we're both unemployed. But yet I should be so jaded and pissed. Yet, I'm not. I went and spent xmas eve at my parents. Even though he always brings extra people and I usually hate it, it wasn't so bad this year. My parents are getting up there in age and who knows how many more gatherings there will be.
I'm sure this sounds all whiney and sappy, and now it's getting long and winded, but traditions are traditions for a reason. Many have stood the test of time and are now being forgotten because people are lazy and apathetic. But, then when it's gone, then people feel nostalgic and try to bring it back, and it's not the same. Why not try keeping the tradition, then it won't be nostalgic and fake, it'll be true. I'm not just talking about religion anymore, I'm talking in the whole scope of life. Because if something ends/dies whatever and is then tried to be brought back, it's NOT the same, no matter how authentic you try to make it.
Now go say 10 Lord's prayers and 5 Hail Mary's
