I just typed this huge fucking post about a bunch of bullshit that I really needed to get off my chest and then accidentally hit a link to another page, thereby erasing every damn word I typed.
So this is all you get.
So this is all you get.
Lankakitten and I have City of Villains pre-ordered. We participated a little in the beta (mostly just screwing around and helping test large scale battles in the PVP zones) and it's pretty awesome. There's another five new archetypes to choose from and that's just awesome:
Brutes - are like melee blasters/tanks, they can easily one shot kill minions after their rage meter goes up. But their defenses are maxed at like 40% or something. I think they have an in-built resistance to holds so they're a controller's worst nightmare.
Corruptors - have blaster primaries, and defender-style secondaries. So a fire/fire corruptor would be a fire blaster with heals and fire shields for his buddies.
Masterminds - Have a pet primary and a defender-style secondary. So a robots/force field mastermind would summon seven to nine robots to fight for him, and he could bubble them so they'll be nearly impossible to destroy. They're fucking fun to play. Other pet primaries include zombies, mercenaries, and ninjas.
Stalkers - Are like blaster/scrappers with an in-built stealth. Basically, they're rogues and can one-shot kill other players. I didn't try one as it seemed that they're pretty weak out of stealth. I dig that they have a ninja primary and secondary for this AT though, one could make Batman pretty easily out of a stalker I think.
Dominators - Are like blaster/controllers. They can hold an enemy in place and finish them off themselves, good soloers. They've got an ability called "dominate" that makes their holds last twice as long as usual.
From what I gather, the new archetypes seem to make more sense if you think about them as being direct counters to the current archetypes. Like brutes could down a controller in two punches, dominators could hold scrappers and finish them off at a distance, stalkers could one-shot kill blasters, masterminds can debuff tank defenses while their minions pour on the damage. Corruptors don't seem to fit though, they're like defenders, team-players, but offensive-oriented.
So that's what we're going to play. City of Villains also has custom bases, large-scale PVP, items, and a half-dozen new zones. October 31st it goes live. I'm stoked. It's a good upgrade to the original game and fixes its flaws.
No. You didn't do a bad thing reactivating your account. We reactivated our accounts earlier this month.
To get access to the City of Villains content, you need to buy the City of Villains expansion at a video games store. So that's $49.95, but at least there's no additional monthly fee or anything like that. I'm going to try to find it at Gamestop in a couple minutes.
We're doing Halloween stuff on Monday, when it goes live though, so we probably won't be on 'till Tuesday night. Lankakitten wants to switch to the Triumph server.
I'm still trying to figure out what archetype I'm going to play: Brute, Corruptor, Mastermind?
