(R)eject
When you get into some situation in life, good or bad, you look at it, and figure out what different actions you can take to have an effect on it. You eliminate the crazy ideas and you think about what might happen if you do this or that. You narrow it down.
The hardest ones come to those where you narrow it down to nothing but the eject handle. You can stay as you are, leaving everything in it's current state, or you can pull it and get the hell out.
My metaphor breaks down, 'cos it's not even that easy. To pull the eject handle, you just need a clear moment of resolution, then suddenly you're 500 feet away worrying more about whether you broke your neck than whether it was the right thing to do, let alone where the plane's gonna land now you're not in it. Those are concerns that can wait.
Sadly, pulling the eject handle in these situations takes longer, and you've got keep your eyes looking out there and keep pulling, otherwise, you might start pushing it back in. Hell, there's other people in the plane pulling it the other way and doing all sorts of other stuff that might put you off.
But you've just got the handle, that's all. Are you gonna hang in there and pull it long enough so that one day you're plesently surprised by the bump as you softly touch down? Pulling the handle took so much effort, that you didn't even realise you'd left the plane.

Yeah, all the rationalisation in the world doesn't make pulling it any f-ing easier
