I just hooked up with a new forum. It's a ground-up sort of thing; Tara and I got in early thanks to an invite from Fenris23. I'm feeling the optimism I normally feel when something's coming together. As much of an individualist as I am, I feel pretty good about belonging to a group, especially a group of like-minded people, interested in the same (or similar) goal as I am.
When we were fooling around with some role-playing game magicks, Nurodancer and I had a conversation about what I wanted in the way of group interaction. The conclusion drawn at the time, which I still feel is valid now, is that I want what, in Mage: the Ascension, is called a cabal, a collection of will-workers who are friends at base. Mages in a cabal work together as equals, sharing insights, tricks, helping each other with problems. I don't want to be in a coven with a high priest/ess and other normal power structures. I could have had that not too long ago, and did have something like it longer ago. It's just not my style. In light of my Erisian leanings, I think it's a synchronicity that the same term is used to describe groups of Erisians working together.
Now, with respect to whether or not I have that cabal, I would say that I do. It's not large, and not everyone in it is accessible from here, but I think it's growing a bit as I meet more like-minded folks, each one of us on our own paths and glad to lend a hand to fellow travelers on their own paths. The Space Pirates of the Jolly Hastur is one component, an explicitly Erisian one, focused more on Tara and me. Deoxy.org is another, acting as more of a place to connect with more people than any kind of discrete group. With respect to whether or not it's what I want, I would say that I'm happy with it.
