As my absence on the internet may have indicated, we finally managed to get in touch with the girl-person. Basically, the same day as my last post. As Tara thought, the girl was thinking we were coming into town next week, not this week, so she was understandably frazzled. However, after a slightly rocky adjustment period, I think the whole thing went rather well.
We saw Chinatown and Venice Beach, and we saw lots of Hollywood.
There's really more than I care to say. Everyone who was there knows what happened and how things went, and that's what matters to me. Also, that I have pictures.
However, I would rather that we stayed. I don't like it here (I know I've said that before), but I need to finish my PhD, or at least make sufficient progress to allow me to finish it up on my own. At this point, I don't need to be on campus too much, other than to defend it at the end. Meetings can be held by phone and feedback can be delivered via email. Frankly, I'm looking to get the hell out of dodge ASAP.
Unfortunately, ASAP is still a little ways off yet, and I still like this girl. Tara and I are talking about a road trip, likely next summer, that way we can cover LA, San Francisco, and Vancouver all in one swell foop.
Ending up anywhere on the west coast is fine because transportation and visiting gets way easier and cheaper. It doesn't have to be LA, it just has to be somewhere between LA and Vancouver. I still prefer San Francisco, by the way.
