I had a productive day. I read three articles, meaning that I did the minimum reading for the coming week and I started reading for my Epistemology of Testimony term paper. I still don't have a very specific direction for that one, but I feel a bias towards reductionism about testimony, and I have a good deal of skepticism for models which presuppose truth-telling in linguistic ability. I also don't have a specific topic for my Pragmatism paper, but I intend to do another article search tomorrow. I feel that I want to either focus on James's account of mysticism, or examine his treatment of religion as a personal, rather than a social, phenomenon (a treatment with which I agree). My professor suggested looking at some discussions of experience by John Dewey, so I will see what I can bring in from there once I have done so. I have to turn in both proposals fairly soon, but not so soon as to constitute considering myself far behind.
Once done with that, I installed a non-trial version of Photoshop so that I could scan more pages for my TA class, and I installed Gimp on Tara's computer. All that, and still time to get pho at a little place down the street. Ed got some fireworks which I think he plans to explode later. I now understand why they sell fireworks within the city limits here. They only sell the tamest stuff, nothing one could use to do some real damage. Just showy stuff, all bang and no whiz (or maybe it's the other way around). I don't think I can consider it amateur fireworks without bottle rockets and those little firecrackers that explode loudly or change colors and bounce around humming when thrown. The particular place we went didn't even have roman candles, although Ed recognized the name, so he likely saw them somewhere before.
On Monday, we plan to go a Halloween party thrown by someone in the department. I plan to keep a low profile and keep the talk chatty and not interesting. If I do so, I should have an ok time and not get frustrated with anyone.
