Starting a job as a cashier/parcel clerk at a grocery store teaches you things. Or, rather, it teaches me things.
I've got a lot more empathy towards cashiers and such now, and I always thought I was a pretty nice guy before. I know alot of things not to do at the grocery store, things I see in a different light now that I've had them done to me. For instance, people that leave their carts wherever they finish with them are the scum of the earth. Only, not really, I think. I honestly believe that they just aren't thinking about the guy that has to go and gather them all up. When I'm actually out there getting carts, being visible, people remember. It's not like I'm going to yell at them if they don't put the cart up, I just smile and take it all day because that's my job. So maybe they only feel guilty if they see me, but at least they can feel guilt.
This all ties together into my theory: people aren't generally good, people aren't generally bad, people are generally gibbering morons.
Have a nice day.
