I love talking about books because I spend a lot of time reading. It's the way I found it to distract me from my troubles.
For this tag I could easily talk about Harry Potter. This is definitely my favorite book series. But today I want to talk about another book that marked me when I was a child. I was 12 when I read it.
This book is called "Depois daquela viagem" in Portuguese, translating into English is something like "After that trip". This is not the kind of book with easy or fantasy subjects. It's about a girl who got AIDS when she was 16. But it's not about having sex without a condom or about people dying of AIDS, it's about a girl who struggled to have a life even when it seemed like everything was over. She went to college, traveled abroad, had boyfriends, had a broken heart, made new friends .... She lived.
Here in Brazil we lost a lot of people to AIDS in the 80s and even then we do not talk much about it.
This book reminds me that even in the worst situation you can find something to fight for, and sometimes you have to fight for yourself.
