What do you do when someone buys you a really expensive gift? I'm overwhelmed at this gift that my girlfriend got me. I love it, but at the same I feel some what guilty because of how expensive it is.

Damn, that sucks about your friend.  With the right treatment though, she should be alright in the end.  I've known three people who had colon cancer and two of them are still with us so I call them pretty decent odds.  As for the gift in my experience the amount of money doesn't matter as much as the meaning.  A gift can cost $5 or $5,000 and have the same meaning to you and she wouldn't be your girlfriend if the meaning didn't matter most.

The friend got the official news today that it is cancer and they will have to remove the tumor. But on the good side, it sounds like they've caught it very early, so she may only need to have surgery and not have to go through chemo. As to my girlfriend and the gift. I'm so lucky that she loves me as much as she does. I think part of my guilt is my own unhappiness with my financial situation. I generally see myself as comfortable with the fact that she makes more than I do, but I hate that I make so little that I can't even contribute to our finances as a couple. But regardless I am very fortunate to have someone who cares so much for me.

One of the last projects on the new house is almost complete - the custom cabinet work. Getting these in has made this feel more like the house is completed. The electrician comes tomorrow, and other than some painting and organizing the house will be done.

@adelina Yeah I'm sure that jealousy is always there in the background somewhere, at least for us mere mortals ;-) It's an interesting situation though because she's been bring the fantasy up a lot lately. Usually it is with some actress, but a couple of times it has been with a friend of mine and that's an even more slippery slope. I'm going to try to blog a bit more when I can find the time. I'm taking the summer off from taking classes (I'll still teach) to finally get a few things in order.
