I think in September I want to do another road trip. Back in 1990 I went across country on a motorcycle. 14,000 miles in 3 months. During the trip I met a guy from England (I stayed in youth hostels for the most part) and we decided to hike the Grand Canyon. He ran marathons and I was young and cocky, so we decided to do the hike from the rim to Phantom Ranch and back against the recommendations of, oh, everyone. We started at 7:00AM, it was somewhere in the 40s, by the time we reached the ranch 10 miles away it had climbed into the 90s. The hike back was going well until we reached the last rest stop before the switchbacks back up to the rim. I made a fatal error and laid down on the picnic table for 10 minutes. When I got up, I lost my lunch in a big way. Not the greatest way to start the mile climb to the rim. By the time we got to the top, I was taking 2 steps and resting, 2 steps and resting, repeat as necessary. It was 10:00PM when we finally climbed out of the canyon. We stopped in the cafeteria and, on my friends recommendation, pounded down as many potatoes and greens that I could. By the time we left the parking lot I was out cold. It took me an entire week to recover. It was the most euphoric experience of my life.
So, in September, I think I might pack up and head out again, nothing as dramatic but still some kind of road trip. Anyone have any suggestions? I think the toughest decision will be to ride, drive or fly.

I've always wanted to do a cross country trip. Can't wait to hear about your plans.

How I fucked up: when the directions say that the bleach really does develop faster closer to the scalp, they mean it. My hair isn't all one solid color. But, with the red on top, it blends pretty well.
