Ah, Saturday mornings with Roxy Music and coffee, we hardly knew ye.
So I've been sort of out of the loop on the site but trying to pop in a bit more often. I'll have time over the next two weeks since for the time being my hours at the radio station have been cut down a bit. A little surprising and a bit off-putting, to say the least, but I'm trying not to let it get me down. I'm still scheduling all music for our classic rock station, and doing some weekend and swing airshifts. On top of that, I'm also voice-tracking the evening show for our sister Oldies station now. Yep. Under a different handle of course, and sounding like a bad ripoff of old top 40 DJs. It's actually sort of fun in a perverted way. Johnny Rivers can suck my left nut, by the way. He's the Michael Bolton of the 60s, "Secret Agent Man" notwithstanding.
And, as promised, baseball. To keep you updated, this past winter I snagged the position of #1 public address announcer (there are three others) for New Hampshire's new AA Blue Jays affiliate, the Fisher Cats. It's a haul from where I live and the pay was far lower than what I was hoping, but I decided "fuckit" and kept at it anyway. It's actually been fun. Haven't seen any rehabbing major leaguers come through yet, but it's early in the season.
My only real miscue so far was having a Manny Ramirez moment in the first game, in which after a strikeout in the top of the 7th I started calling for the 7th inning stretch. After two outs. Oops. The gaffe even made the Union Leader story the next day, that was a hoot.
We had a kids day this past week and I had the privilege of announcing to 3500 kids over the PA: "Fans, if you want Scooby Doo to stay with us today, please make him feel welcome and don't hit him with your mini-bats. Thank you." We have a Fisher Cat coming but the mascot isn't done yet. Scooby Doo was pinch hitting and got the shit kicked out of him apparently.
Decided to pick up Dream Syndicate's "Days of Wine and Roses" finally. So far really enjoying it, considering I knew very little of their stuff before. I am really getting into the demo versions on the re-issue version.

Ohhh, poor Scooby!
Good luck on the Earth Wind and Fire hit.
