WOW! I want to share this with my friends. Here we are, in the 21st Century, thinking we're so big, and all it takes is some fuck up at a power plant to bring us to OUR KNEES!
Well, can't get me. I've got a battery and a working land line. Here, folks, is live coverage.......
Husband's stuck in the city, but he called me from a bar & I think he'll be getting a drink on. Me, I'm having my Campari & soda at home.
Although, I did stop in a bar on my way back here from a trek up the street, but that was as much to get the word on the street as it was for Campari. I thought it was my fault when the lights went out, because I was vacuuming with the air conditioner running - MAYBE IT WAS MY FAULT! Anyway, I determined that we were having a local brown-out, so I decided I would go out & do my shopping. Friends were supposed to come for dinner tonight.....don't know if they still will. They're listing "BASIC SURVIVAL TIPS" on the radio - dinner guests are NOT a priority.
So, I walked up Manhattan Avenue realizing as I went that nobody had power. It was a perfect people watching scene. I decided all I needed was a bucket and Bailey's, & somehow, as people are scattering for batteries and candles, I cruise home with a bucket & my Bailey's feeling really convival. Then I stopped in the bar, and now I'm mellow at home. This doesn't feel life & death like 9/11 did, thank God.......this is just a snow day in August & New York is OK.
