I've always been a fan of Japanese horror films, such as Shimizu's Ju-On (2002), Hideo Nakata's Ring (1998), and my favorite one, Dark Water (2002). These movies not only have the best jump scares ever, but they also tend to focus on more psychological aspects of what humans find "creepy".
I remember I first watched the Dark Water when I was in my sophomore year of college. The Japanese are the true masters of horror indeed! I believe it's pretty hard to creep me out, but this film has gone as far as a film could. Make sure you turn the lights off when you watch it. The overall atmosphere of this movie is unreal - very eerie and sinister. Hideo Nakata does it like no one else can - you can literally sense this awe-inspiring feeling in the air as you play the movie. Unfortunately, the American remake was a terrible mistake (so watch the original!)
