The elbow problem was, by the way, not enough to dent my new-found good mood.
My wife and I, with regret on both sides, on Sunday morning decided that separating (after 14 years) was the only thing that made logical sense. But we've recently discovered really talking to each other, and although throughout the day, we re-confirmed that separation was the only thing that made logical sense, that emotionally neither of us really wanted separation, and we're going to try to work things out. So far so good!
Neither of us can promise that everything will be perfect, but we're talking and listening, and the two of us have each traded in some of our old tired stubbornness in favour of some new-fangled co-operation and negotiation.

And it's good that you and your wife have decided to try and work through difficulties.
