My first hater...
This was inevitable. As I sipped my mocha java waking from a surprisingly restful night of sleep I checked the amazon page and to my surprise found that not everyone loves my book! What? How can this be? I laugh. I've just always wondered what inspires people to hate and what gives them the motivation to take time to document and share their hate. It's somewhat flattering. I wish it were more detailed though. I'm not feeling it enough.
Now, I'm quite aware that many haters exist in the world and this is only one of many people who will feel inspired to share her feelings and I can't say that I will always take time out of my precious and wonderful life to respond to it or to give it any thought at all but being that it is my very first public one star review. I feel compelled to rebut.

How are you today on this muggy August morning? Me, well, I'm done with this heatreally. I find it draining and debilitating. Enough already.
So, I hear that someone recommended my book Go Ask Ogre to you and you did indeed read it. I thank you. I see that you found it rambling and confusing. Rambling, yes. I would say so. Confusingnot sure what you mean by that. I was confused at the time that the material was written. Could you please clarify?
You are correct, This book is not Go Ask Alice for the following reasonsum Alice died. Her epilogue says,
The subject of this book died three weeks after her decision not to keep another diary.
Her parents came home from a movie and found her dead. They called the police and the hospital but there was nothing anyone could do.
Was it an accidental overdose? A premeditated overdose? No one knows, and in some ways the question isn't important. What must be of concern in that she died, and that she was only thousands of drug deaths that year.
The interesting thing is that a lot of people speculate that Go Ask Alice is work of fiction put together by the editor Beatrice SparksNo one knows.and in some ways the question isn't important.
The difference between Go Ask Ogre and Go Ask Alice, in this sense is that well, I wrote my own epilogueI am a real, living & breathing person.
Her writing is amateurish and honestly, at age 17, I could have written this account.
and of course my writing is amateurish! I am an amateur. That is the beauty of Go Ask Ogre. I'm sure a lot 17 year-olds could write a story. EVERYONE has a story. The difference is that everyone doesn't write their story. Passion is a vital key. I am a woman of passiongiggle.
If you feel that the book brings you nowhere well, I can't change your thoughts about that but if you look closer you will find that a mourning, angry, self-loathing, suicidal, isolated cutter in February of 1987 becomes a self-aware, soul searcher who is determined to surround herself with positive influencesand just two years latersomeone who has the courage to seek therapy in order to become well-adjusted and happy. Someone who takes $300 and a greyhound bus to Los Angeles and finds a great life in which she travels (and even resides briefly in Amsterdam)hmmmteaches herself Dutch, has wonderful & incredible friendsif that's not inspiring, I don't know what it.
Motivational. People will take what they wish from anything given to them. Here's a question. Does Go Ask Alice motivate? I loved this bookdid it motivate me or just make see that drugs are bad? I suppose it motivated me to keep a journaland that drugs are BAD!
Bottom line. We are responsible for our actions and behavior, which is the primary message in Go Ask Ogre.
Way off. What does that mean? Way off of what? Way off my rocker?
I can't imagine why this book was recommended to me by a friend - - maybe because of the music angle. But honestly, that's even poorly done.
Not sure Sarah. Sounds like a question for your friend. As far as the music angle is concerned and how it was done. How do I respond to that? How do you do truth any differently than what it is. True. Pure. Raw. Jagged. Messy. AUTHENTIC.

I just can't imagine that anyone would publish this rambling and confusing story of some young girl's life. Hardly is this "Go Ask Alice." The author, between her writing and her drawings, brings the reader nowhere. Her writing is amateurish and honestly, at age 17, I could have written this account.
Also, I think cutting is a serious issue, but she doesn't devote nearly enough to the causes of this illness and this book is not very inspirational or motivational.
I suggest people read "Prozac Nation" instead - - this is just "way off", dull, whiny and should be avoided. I think it would have made a much better article in a magazine.
