As a fellow human being who enjoys dining out I feel compelled to share the following information.
The next time your food server brings a box for you to wrap up your leftovers, consider the following.
I honestly think there are some times when Im too considerate. (NOTE* I said some times- not all the time) When it comes to hearts (love) and food/ beverage (things you consume) I try to do unto others. Honest.
I have many years in the food industry. Ive seen the faces of guests when I bring them a box to put their food in. Offended. Well, let me tell you something. Im not being lazy. Really. Wanna know what happened yesterday? I heard WhiteSugar ask if anyone took the place of fish that was on the counter. I saw him go to the garbage. He looks inside with disappointment. He tells the manager that someone threw out the food that he was about to wrap up and she says Maybe its for the cat. Maybe? Can we just NOT assume and make another? Tell the guest what happened. BE HONEST! But whatever you do PLEASE dont even think about taking it out of the trash. Please WhiteSugar, tell me you didnt take it out of the trash! He said hes done it before. Im ill. I dont want to hear any more. I could never do something like that. Once I worked at this German restaurant in Michigan. I wore a Dirndl and the men wore Lederhosen. So, this guy is wrapping some food and he drops a chicken leg and oddly enough saves it. How? Between his hairy, exposed legs. Did he throw it out? Nope. He put it in the box. I try. Honest. I try to discourage this & no one ever listens to me. Ive had bus boys get angry with me for telling them to throw the loaf of bread out when its fallen on the floor. Seriously. One guy got really, really angry with me. So messed up.
Once, not too long ago at my very nice establishment this cook dropped a piece of quesadilla on the floor. He even noticed that I saw him as he attempted to put it on the plate. I said, You are NOT going to serve that! He got pissed at me! Can you fucking believe that?
That being said. Dont think your server is not doing his/her job when they bring you a box. Theyre actually doing you a favor.

I am grateful that there are waitresses like you out there. It is a complicated job that is often under-appreciated. Thank you.
