I am having trouble getting a handle on the fact that another year has come and is almost gone. It doesn't feel like it's been an entire year. The next few journal entries will probably be updated with lists.
This is my list of my favorite albums from 2008. Not really in any specific order. This was a difficult list to make. There were just so many GREAT albums to choose from this year. Mostly this is a list of what was a constant on my playlists.
*Remember this is not in any kind of order*
1. Jukebox - Cat Power
I love her voice. I want to be Cat Power. She's beautiful, she has the most amazing voice, and her song picks for this album of covers is right on.
2. Lost & Found - The Dexateens
If you live in Alabama....or the South for that matter, you probably have heard of The Dexateens. If not, you are probably LAME! This is raw, southern rooted, rock n roll. AND I LOVE IT!
3. Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend
This is one of my picks because I could not stop listening to this album all summer. I put it on, and it just makes me smile.
4. Conor Oberst - Conor Oberst
So Bright Eyes aside. Conor is an AMAZING writer. The Mystic Valley Band is incredible. There's Macey Taylor, Nik Freits, Nate Walcott, Jason Boesel, and Taylor Hollingsworth. As much as I adore Conor, I think Taylor Hollingsworth is the kid to watch. As the website says "Taylor Hollingsworth was born. Then he played guitar. He hasn't died yet." and lemme tell you this kid can really play guitar.
5. Santogold - Santogold
This album hit me outta nowhere. I grabbed a cd out of boredom and because I needed something to listen to. I'm really glad that I did. This is just a cool album.
6. Cardinology - Ryan Adams & The Cardinals
Drugs, booze, tantrums, and walking off stage. It's sad that Ryan Adams is mostly noticed for his erratic behavior and his music is often faded into the background of that. This is one of my favorite albums of 2008, but I think also one of Ryan's best. This album is smooth, classy, and it rocks!
7. Bad Little Kitty - Taylor Hollingsworth
I can't say enough about how much I LOVED this album. This probably got the most play in 2008 from me. Mr. Hollingsworth is force that cannot be stopped. He is one of the most amazing musicians I have ever heard. The way he plays guitar is magical. His voice has that nasal rasp of Bob Dylan. Voice aside, it's all about that guitar talent. He is probably one of the top 10 best guitar players that has ever lived. Seriously. It's amazing. The way he plays....it will break your heart. *I wrote about this in a previous journal this year...I think I used that exact line about breaking your heart*
8. Dig!!! Lazarus, Dig!!! - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Um, Nick Cave. That is probably enough said. I love the title track. Also one of my favorite songs on this albums is "Jesus of the Moon"
9. Feed The Animals - Girl Talk
Master of the Mash-Up! This is great for parties.
10. Rabbit Habits - Man Man
Not my favorite Man Man album, but this spend a great amount of time in my car cd player.
11. Oracular Spectacular - MGMT
This was serious the album of the summer. DANCE DANCE DANCE! "Kids" is so much fun. That song has been covered more times this year at local shows than any one song. This might even be my top pick for 2008. Maybe.
12. For Emma, Forever Ago - Bon Iver
A rare gem. So honest, intimate and beautiful.

I accomplished a lot, too. I wish I could articulate it tou right now, but my big-boy job has muddled my brain.
