So I went to the food show today with Nelson's mom and aunt. IT WAS SO AWESOME!
I got to see Rob Feenie prepare salmon 2 ways (pan seared and dry cured) and make risotto and a duck confit salad. *drool*
I got to run around the stadium tasting yummy samples (everything from yogurt to berry vinegar to pork tenderloin to pudding to coffee).
I got to ogle fancy equipment (different types of pots/pans, espresso machines, garlic presses, graters).
I bought (from L-R): REAL parmigiano reggiano (and the little cheese knife I got for free), Jamaican jerk marinade ("medium" Jamaican heat as the woman explained it
), a bottle of balsamic reduction (all tangy and sweet and thick), a jar of black olive and BLACK TRUFFLE (
) tapenade (so rich and earthy...*dies*), and a silicone basting brush (yay dishwasher safe!).
I got to go into the booze tasting area, where I discovered a BEAUTIFUL locally made raspberry wine. I also had the one BAD experience of my day when a STUPID STUPID STUPID woman (volunteer) was cleaning up the toss away plastic cups and threw one that was half full of strawberry liqueur at the garbage can that was at the end of the table, but also right in front of me (I was finishing a drink off, getting ready to go see Bob Blumer). It hit the edge of the table and went "sploosh" all over me. I was wearing my white velour hoody at the time. I was NOT a happy camper. Stupid people. Good thing the mother-in-law was there to save the day (she took the jacket and ran to the washroom to clean it), and it's a good thing I have spot treatment.
Anyways, all in all, an eventful and pleasant day. And that tapenade is going to be fabulous mixed into an alfredo sauce.
