Boy Erased is well worth your time and is a candidate for my Top Ten Movies of 2018. Based on a memoir about a teenager undergoing conversion therapy, it manages to avoid cheap shots and overt melodrama. Lucas Hedges is wonderful in the lead role, and he is ably supported by Nicole Kidman and Russell Crowe as his parents. Joel Edgerton is also a highlight in the cast and wrote the screenplay, produced, and directed it as well. Based on this and The Gift from a few years back he is clearly going to be a major directorial force. Go see it.
