If you live in an area showing either "The Devil's Double" (a film about Uday Hussein and the man hired to be his double in order to avoid assassination attempts) or "Attack The Block" (which is a fun sci-fi horror movie about some British street thugs defending their council flat from an attack of alien wolf creatures with glowing fangs) I heartily recommend seeing them. Both were more proof (if it was needed) that good movies don't need $100 million plus budgets if you have a well-wrought script, tight direction, and good performances. Of course both movies are barely getting a proper release (I took the train to NYC to see them) so that the big chains can show, like, the Smurfs or Final Destination 5 every half hour, so they are movies you have to really want to see, that you really have to make the effort to see. When will they learn that if you have a 15 screen mutliplex that if you devote one screen to art/foreign/documentary/alternative you will eventually grow an audience that will gladly forego Hollywood shit like "30 Minutes Or Less" (a movie that isn't exactly setting the BO on fire) to see something different?
