I just watched the Americanized remake of "Funny Games". While I have grown to detest "Hostel/Saw" movies where people are tied to chairs while calm serial killers torture them, I found myself thinking this was a good movie. I am conflicted by the fact I liked it. Was I getting off on the violence and cruelty on a base level, or was I appreciating the film as a study in violence? The fact that I am conflicted leads me to believe there's something there. Unless, of course, there isn't, which makes me a chump. Naomi Watts is a great actress, maybe my favorite currently. Tim Roth is awesome as always (though he can't quite tackle the American accent). Michael Pitt is quietly becoming one of the best actors of his generation. This is a shocking film, very violent, and not for everybody. But if violence in film intrigues you, it is worth putting towards the top of you Netflix queue.
