Happy St Patrick's Day. Truly a "great day fer da Oirish" as the newscasters all say during telecasts of the parade. In high school (more than a few moons ago) I started dating a fine Irish lass on St Patrick's Day (in 1990!) named Erin and found no end to the hilarity of saying "Erin Go Braless" over and over again. This is yet another holiday where my fellow Irish Americans get to be plastered while I sneak a sugar-free Red Bull and feel real cool. Caffeine is my drug.
The drummer for Abba (Swedish SuperGroup--sold more records than the Beatles and the Stones combined!) died of a bizarre gardening accident. Now, if you ever saw "This Is Spinal Tap" (and if you haven't, do so immediately) you will remember the band has had countless drummers, all of whom died untimely unnatural deaths. Yes, one of the drummers died in a bizarre gardening accident. You can't make this shit up. Eerie. But then again, a band member for that 80s group Poco also died in a bizarre gardening accident as well. And here I thought all rock deaths were either drug and/or plane crash related.
Speaking of rock and drugs, I have been really into The Rolling Stones lately. I always thought I would like their non-"classics" (ie "not the ten songs radio stations play") and I was correct. I really dig Beggars Banquet the most, but Exile On Main Street and Let it Bleed are also good. So is Some Girls which has my current favorite Stones song "Before They Make Me Run" about being fed up with the lifestyle, song by Keith Richards himself. It is good stuff.
