It's pretty funny to me to see how many of the Groups on this site have fairly strict membership requirements. As if joining a Plus Sized Women chat group should have some sort of entrance requirements, like getting an auto loan or applying for a work visa or something like the same. I imagine there is a reason, but it seems to me to be pretty damn petty and not a little elitist, especially for such an alternative site. Everybody has their own agendas, though, I suppose.
What a shock the new Will Ferrell comedy has done poorly this weekend. I suppose the world wasn't screaming out for another movie where Ferrell is a pompous know-it-all that receives a comeuppance and becomes a humbler person. In a sports genre no less. Hollywood could stand to maybe try to be a little more original.
I am reading more of The Best And The Brightest (about the roots of the US involvement in Viet Nam). It is good, but kind of slow going since the author makes lots of references to people I never heard of, but were probably much more household names when the book was initially published in 1969.
I watched The Assassination Of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford yesterday. It was good (the acting and cinematography were outstanding) but at 157 minutes, it was at least a half-hour too long. The director was trying a bit too hard to be arty also, which gave the movie a bit of an alienating effect. Still, it was worth checking out, and totally undeserving of being dumped into theatrical release late last year (Warner Brothers seems to do that more than any other studio, with the possible exception of Miramax).
My music listening habits for the past week or so has been dominated by The Rolling Stones. I have mostly stuff from their prime era (Beggars Banquet thru Sticky Fingers) and am liking it quite a little bit. Most of the non "hits" are more interesting than the umpteenth playing of Jumpin Jack Flash or Satisfaction (both of which are movie titles, by the way).
What happened to that great mid-eighties trend of naming movies after old rock songs?
I want to write a movie called "Martha My Dear".
