RIP Roy Schieder
The seventies were probably the best decade, movie-wise, ever. Certain acotrs showed up in a lot of stuff. Roy Schieder was in Jaws, French Connection, All That Jazz, and Marathon Man. All interesting and worthy movies. Even in the eighties he was in some good stuff.
While all the obituaries will (and should) focus on Jaws, my personal favorite performace was in a little-seen thriller called 52 Pick-Up. He plays a somewhat amoral businessman being blackmailed by three really strange men. He turns the tables on them and it makes for a very off-beat thriller (directed by the great John Frankenheimer). In this movie (and most of his films) he brings a certain level of no-bullshit world weariness that is really compelling.
He will be missed.
