I am going to see Bill Cosby this Saturday. When I was younger, I never bought music tapes or records (I am showing my old fogey-ist nature now), but did buy a lot of comedy "albums". I lived near a store called Jamesway (which was a low-rent version of K-Mart, which is a hard thing to be in and of itself), and would go there a lot and buy tapes from the $1.99 bin (home to such greats as Loggins And Messina and The New Monkees). Anyway, around the resurgence of popularity of Bill Cosby (thanks to his titular show), Jamesway would sell a gaggle of old comedy records he had put out in the seventies as re-issues. I would buy them and listen to them to the point of memorization. I would put them on a night and fall asleep to them. Bill Cosby was (and hopefully is still) a very funny comedian. He wasn't "jokey" and didn't really have a "schtick", but would tell simple funny stories of being a kid and, later, being a dad. His material was very inclusive and I would imagine most cultures could probably enjoy the universal nature of his routines.
I am going to the market tomorrow to buy tofu-based products. I need more protein, consarn it!
