Happy Thanksgiving.
I saw No Country For Old Men last nite. It was super-good. The ending is going to be troubling to most people that see it, because it is unconventional, and is probably a let-down for those who expect a standard resolution. The last twenty minutes are very unlike the proceeding 100 minutes. It was brave to end on a minor note. I didn't like the ending initially but as I let it simmer in my mind I find it much better.
Speaking of unconventional endings, I also saw The Mist this morning (only four dollars!). Really good and all I hoped for, given it is one of my favorite Stephen King pieces. The ending was genuinely unsettling. I am shocked Frank Darabount got that one thru.
So, two movies, both personal films (tho' both based on novels) that somehow managed, more or less, to get out into the world without massive studio tinkering. Neither with the stench of audience polling to make the numbers go up. That is certainly something to be thankful for.
As well, my family and friends are all healthy. As am I. Again, thanks are in order.
