Another late night.
But we won't get into that.
Just clinched the bike for my joke tri, so it's all set. Got the hot pink shag fur, got the cruiser, now all I need is streamers for the handlebars, clicky things for the spokes, and a football helmet. Oh, and a tu-tu.
I think we'll be premiering this shitely fantastic ensemble at a sprint tri...

The column that never ends.
1030p and still at work, facing the never ending column. Sometimes you don't get exactly what you want, so you make best with what you got. Sometimes you can clean it up, make it respectable-like, but man oh man does it take time, and I need this clean and pristine.
Smells good, though. A vinyl iodide candidate whose route just...

Last Saturday night I end up biking from La Jolla/UTC to 4th and B to catch Doc Martin till 4am, then bike back to La Jolla. Shower, eat breakfast, then help my labmate run the Carlsbad marathon (only the last 8 miles, though). After that, and a post-race afterparty, I sleep for a couple hours before waking up remembering that I have...

I think I'm getting used to this schedule of mine. Take this morning for instance. I wake up before my alarm clock at 5:45am to go run 12 miles from lab to PB and back, run a few reactions, go to a japanese class, and surprisingly feel fine; even looking forward to my next run.
I guess I thought it'd take longer than a week,...

And now, back to the merry land of San Diego. At least the rain was welcoming. Am I rested? Recharged? Ready for this quarter, cuz its a doozy...the usual lab work topped by Japanese and a crazy exercise schedule, which isn't so different from last quarter albeit the training for the Boston marathon, the Wild Miles relay, and then the Wildflower tri...........um, yeah. I'm a...

Home means running in the rain, from Bolinas to Stinson and back. And tomorrow, from the outer Sunset , through the park, past Baker beach, and up to Fort Point to the GG bridge and back. The smells of hanging duck from the local chinese market, and the sight of Dutch windmills from the beach. Not to mention those dirty faux-punks on the Haight.

The Late Night Challenge
Late in the lab amassin' all my lit references for a grant to the allmighty NIH, and maybe that ACS petroleum fund for shits and giggles, when I come across my competition.
Competition say what?
No seriously, in this line of work its not uncommon for two or more groups to be racing towards completing the same target. Now usually this...

Eww, gross. Just realized that I've got the Boston marathon in the middle of April, the La Jolla half marathon the weekend after, the WildMiles 180+ mile desert relay race the weekend after that, followed by that Wildflower triatha-thingie a 7 days later. I'm gonna be all stringy and kenyan, just watch.
Sometimes I fill up my dance card a weeee bit too much.

I just regestered for the Wildflower triathlon, olympic distance (1.5k swim, 40K bike, 10K run).
http://www.tricalifornia.com/wildflower/2006/
This should be interesting. Well, at least my training for the Boston marathon will nicely coincide with this triathlon. And the tri is 3 weeks after the marathon, which is just enough time for a recuperation taper. And all the swimmin' will be good at preventin' running injuries....

I didn't cook enough during Thanksgiving.
Oh, there was plenty of food and all. I just didn't get that satisfaction of work = immediate gratification that I was hoping for. Ya see, one of the reasons I like cooking so much is that unlike my work, which I spend months and years to get any decent results, at home I can throw this...
