The 15th hour in lab today. Woulda been out earlier if it hadn't been for that 500 Mhz NMR gettin' all uppity at me. Had to bring in Mr. Fix it and have him get all up in its face sayin' "step off and shim bitch!"
Yeah, its been a long day. Still rotovaping off solvent. Fucking columns.
But on a lighter note, if alla y'all like somethin' different, hit up Tipper's site @ www.tippermsuic.net and download his Live at Shambhala mix. Great at settin' a late night in the lab kinda tone.
This past Monday had the most fun talking to the guest organic seminar speaker, as Yoshi was getting in a little late. Talked about all sorts of organicky goodness, post-doc direction and recommendation, like this and like that and like this and uh. Got into this debate about who'd be better to work for, Steve Ley or Tohuru Fukuyama. Cuz Steve Ley would be fun to go to a pub with, but Fukuyama speaks english with a Texan accent. That British beer is good, but the food miserable, whereas Japanese food is great (hello, Sushi!), but have crap beer. You know, important things to consider when planning on where to post-doc.
On a completely different note, I've been put in charge of certain fundraising activities for this running team that I'm on (NaCl) to run at www.wildmiles.com. We won last year which gets us a free entry, but this year we're fielding three teams, and wouldn't it be nice if we didin't have to pay? So what am I organizing?
A beer mile.
4 laps = 1 mile. Drink 1 beer/lap = beer mile. No running with beer, and if you yack you're out. How fast can you go? Now multiply this w/ >200 competative athletic-folk and you've got the makings of a kodak moment. Its not so much a test of tolerance as foam-management. All for a cause! And from simple word of mouth we're getting a great response. The teasers are going out this weekend and we'll ramp up the adverts as we get closer to race day, 'bout 3rd Sunday in March.
Ah, there we go, +8g. of mesylate and I'm out. Azidation starts tomorrow.

Every mile should be a beer mile. For everyone.
