Quick entry here, I have to get out the door to make it to this free food pantry before they run out of numbers.
Yesterday I gave up on the music practice. I just couldn't bring myself to slog through three hours of dispirited meandering improvisation or dull mechanical exercises. I don't know what to do anymore...
What I did do was I went to the pound and spent two hours volunteering with the cats. Instead of spending thirty minutes practicing each different wind instrument, I spent thirty minutes visiting with each of four wonderful kitties: Bennie, Webster, Mei Mei and Scooter. All adult cats, one had been a stray, one had been surrendered by the owner because of the landlord [grrrr], one had been surrendered because the owner moved, and the last one's owner had died. ALL SWEET LOVING CATS. Cats are the best. Cats rule.
Woke up this morning from a dream in which I went to NYC to see a DVD screening in a bar of a documentary about Sandy Denny with the Strawbs, then the event let out close to 4:00 am and I had to get back to SF and I got a ride with a young couple, guy and a girl, we had to walk a long way through a sketchy neighborhood to get to his car, we somehow made it back home to SF where they lived also. And at the end it turned out the girl was my old friend Chani who I met online in 1998 and have never met face to face (till this dream). She wrote me a love letter and left it on my mailbox (Chani and I used to swap lines from the fillm Blue Velvet and there is a classic bit in there, a lecture Dennis Hopper delivers to Kyle MacLachlan about a "love letter")...
But when I woke up this morning, I had this song playing in my head...
I saw this group in concert at SDSU back in 1976 or '77, around the time this song came out...
