No consciously perceptible effects after one day of estrogen pills. The starting dose I'm taking is one half of the typical recommended maintenance dose - see Typical Hormone Regimens. I'm eager to start feeling something... but not too eager (I don't want to get bowled over). I can be patient. If I don't feel anything in two weeks then maybe the anti-androgen med will tilt the balance toward the female in a way I can feel.

Had a pretty good day yesterday. Played a bit on all nine woodwind instruments (four recorders, two flutes, two saxes, and the bass clarinet). The good news is everything is in good functional order and I won't need to bring anything over to Oakland for repairs or adjustments. The worst is that my lip muscles have gotten much weaker (as expected), and so the reed instruments are harder to play, especially the saxophone. I can get that back in shape in a week, I'm sure.

It's more critical that I get the DAW (digital audio workstation) up and running and that I start programming the effects and electronic elements of my live set. Basically, I am just going to try and repeat the same set I did last October at the IAMINDUST festival without all the fuckups (that were due to poor stage management, not lack of preparation on my part). It's just a 40-minute backing track of electronic atmospherics, to which I plan to add some live instrumental parts on bass clarinet, alto flute and percussion, and maybe shortwave radio. Shouldn't be too difficult. Just got to try to keep it simple, and somewhat loose. I have a tendency to want to be too rigidly controlled about everything, and that invariably leads to results that frustrate and disappoint me. If I can pull off a live performance that I am happy with (regardless of what anyone else thinks), I'll have accomplished a lot.

Yesterday I picked up a copy of Chuck Palahniuk's Invisible Monsters on Rudii's recommendation. I'll start reading that on the trip over to Berkeley tonight for the weekly pipe ceremony.

Mood at the moment: Lazy, a little lonely. Feel like I would like to get out of the house on this beautiful day, but also feel like I ought to stay home and work on the music stuff...

Invisible Monsters is and excellent book, I have read it a few times now.
