I got a job offer today. My boss, who recently cut my hours, has offered me a full time position in the company. With it comes the need to commit to staying there. To cease looking for a lIbrary job. In the moment that I realized I was considering it I came to the conclusion that I have lost sight of my dream. I have been concentrating on money ....which has caused me to forget the hours and hours I spent on projects, assignmnets, presentations. I have put myself $50,000 in debt in order to get my MLIS and yet I am not putting my full resources into getting my foot in the door so I can eventually get the library job of my dreams. Yeah I applied to those two positions, and yeah I was bloody upset about not getting them but I was seeing them as jobs, as money, not the way I should be looking at them.
Most people who want to go into youth librarianship do not find a job in the first year. To get that job you have to keep applying, and applying and applying. You have to want it, you have to force yourself to keep trying and try not to get discouraged. I realized this today when I walked into my local library. That is where I want to be. A library, not a business.
So I am going to turn down my boss's offer - he may lay me off. I may be unemployed come monday...but hell I can get another job. I won't allow myself to give up on getting a position at a library! I just won't!
ok...I'm done....sorry for the rant
