Asusu bu uwa (language is the world)
I guess this is in Nigerian, Yoruba, or something similar. I'm an English major (for a few more weeks) and I came across this phrase in Chris Abani's The Face. I've studied a few other languages, and have come to the conclusion that language, whether spoken, written, or otherwise (art, poetry, photography, etc), is the greatest social connection we all share. Although specific languages, especially dialects, can be used to identify a person's background, which could be seen as a method of division, there are other forms of language we all understand.
