Okay well I'm back from Melbourne. Arrived last night. I spent yesterday wandering about the CBD and doing some Xmas shopping for my niece and nephew. And along the way I spent a lot of time appreciating the people I have in my life and how easy it could be to lose them.
I had some poignant thoughts to post here but I can't for the life of me remember them now. This is a curse common to everything that I write, it seems. So, I'll talk about random stuff:
Anyway, Xmas-wise: I bought my niece one of those $30 Oxfam dolls where they give a matching one to an HIV/AIDS child in Zimbabwe. As well as doing something good (though, it won't contribute to a cure for AIDS, I know), I have a hope that it will help my niece get further accustomed to black people as she grows up in an area where there are none, and where racial tolerance is low.
I bought a couple of things for Goldfish, too.
What's more, I picked up a copy of "The Elements Of Style", a book about English usage. It's a staple of any writer's personal library, and after reading a few pages, I'm glad I made the purchase.
I also bought a copy of the magazine "Monocle". Not sure why, though, as I don't feel like it has a lot in that is totally relevant to my interests. Does anyone else read it? What am I not getting?
Today I need to spend a lot of time catching up on my university work, as I'm almost into Week 3 and I've not doing anything yet due to Melbourne holidays.
I'm up in Brisbane this weekend - maybe longer - and I think things should be quite positive overall.
More news as it happens.
