What have I been doing?
1. Study
Last week was the final week of Study Period 4, 2006. For just two units, I had several assignments due and a mountain of reading to complete. I managed to get it done by Thursday night, which was a surprise even to me. I have to thank CrazyJadles for her support. It meant a lot to me. I owe you one, dear.
To make matters worse, Study Period 1, 2007, has commenced today and instead of taking on just two units, I'll be dealing with four.
There's every chance I will be a very poor friend to all of you as I try to stay on top of all of this.
I do, however, intend to commit to Wednesday pub trivia and weekend parties.
2. Movies
Been seeing a lot of movies.
The Good Shepherd. It was fairly interesting in its own way but not really amazing.
The Illusionist. Advanced Screenings were on this past weekend. It's a good movie and, of course, comparable to The Prestige. I think The Prestige wins, overall, but The Illusionist definitely had its own interesting charm. Interestingly, it was set in Vienna though it was filmed in the Czech Republic (which explains the names of the people working on the film looking very ... Eastern European). Anyway, I think The Prestige just had something slightly more sinister about it. However, I think the performances of Edward Norton and Paul Giamatti in The Illusionist were spectacular.
The Queen. Really good movie. Really well-acted by Helen Mirren. Worth seeing though not everyone will like it. Interesting but only fleeting insight into how our monarchy works (yes, fellow Commonwealth citizens, our monarchy).
