Happy Birthday to four people who don't even know this blog exists:
1. My niece, Ashley, who turned 3.
2. My London (now NYC) love, Shannon, who turned 28.
3. My favourite Icelandic musician, Edda Rn lafsdttir of amiina, also 28.
4. My source of bloggy entertainment, Leta Armstrong, daughter of Heather "dooce" Armstrong, also turned 3.
On a different topic, while I lived in London I remember always seeing cool stuff, but it's only because of Shannon, and some other stuff I've been spotting lately, that I've started to look at certain objects differently.
Specifically, instead of seeing something cool and thinking "I want one, who much is it?", I've started to instead think "I wonder if I could make one myself?"
Admittedly, we're talking about a different kind of cool than the Transformers movie. I doubt very much I could make even a working Transformer toy as DIY project.
But there's other stuff out there that I really like, and should really find the time to make myself since it's so easy.
This photoset shows three* cool things that this guy made that you can buy in stores, but it's cheaper and cooler to make them yourself.
I have a creative streak in me, and I love the concept of stuff that's practical or fashionable that you can make yourself. However, I seem to be lacking that extra something that gets me from thought to finished product. Is it confidence? Is it motivation? Is it enthusiasm? What is it?

* I don't think the Nintendo controller counts as he didn't make it nor make anything with it (yet).
