SGLA looks like an imposing group to join. You have to attend one of there events to join the group. The problem is that I live 50 miles from Los Angeles and I have to drive 26 miles from Mission Viejo and Anaheim each way for work. Consequently, it is difficult for me to attend one of their events.
The local group, SGOC, doesn't have many events. SGLA hold several events and seems like a cool group of people to join. However, it is too far from my house. I would have to move to Northern Orange County in order to reap the full benefits of SGLA.
However, three things keep my down in South County:
(1) most of my friends live down here.
(2) my parents live down here
(3) I have a $11,500 in dental surgery that I must pay out-of-pocket in the next year forcing me to live at home with my parents longer than I planned to. I can afford the dental surgery without taking a huge hit to my savings but it will still be very, very costly.
By the way, to rent an apartment down here by yourself is very, very expensive and I have would have to move in with a stranger as a roommate. I prefer the company of my parents to somebody that I didn't know or trust.

Another good tip, Parents don't ask for money in a pinch either like roomates do, or stick you with the rent sometimes! Smart Move! Stick with the parents!
