Got back from DC/Virginia Monday after a longer-than-expected flight. It was so unbelieveably hot and humid down there. I spent a week in Cuba and on my last day two people asked me if I had just arrived. I spent 4 days in DC and I have a real tan with a little burn on my shoulders. I even have a ring line on my middle finger. That hasn't happened in years.
Friday to Sunday Rich and I would get up and drive from his place in Fredericksburg, VA to DC and walk around all day. Museums: Natural History, American History, Holocaust Memorial, Air & Space. Memorials: WWII, Arlington Cemetary, Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, Vietnam War, Korean War, FDR Memorial, Jefferson Memorial. Too bad they weren't all in the same place. So much walking. So hot out. I had no idea how gigantic the Arlington Cemetary was. We happened upon the tomb of the unknown soldier just as they were doing this crazy changing-of-the-wreath ceremony, which was a bit of a bonus, but there were so many hills and no water in sight that we were both dead by the time we'd seen it all. So like the smart kids we are we decide to walk all over Georgetown right afterward.
Nights were spent back in F'burg with Rich; drinkin', fightin', and, uh, ha...yeah. *collar pull* Aside from that we also hung out with a bunch of his friends on Friday night. Most had southern accents but none were rednecks so I was pleased. Some girl named Layla sat in my lap and gave me her phone number. She expects me to call her longdistance. She was pretty cute and really funny, but not that funny.
Sunday night we stayed in and got drunk and stoned and watched Family Guy. Rich got really high and started mumbling that 'all the troubled youth are communists'. Rich is a special boy. My favourite grade 4 teacher/skateshop owner. He is cute and full of weird noises and knows all the words to CCR songs. A+ in my book.
A (very small) random sampling:
