I spent about 10 hours exploring Jackson Heights, Queens yesterday with a few friends and paying tribute to the too soon departed Anthony Bourdain.
We started eating at a small Mexican corner spot that specialized in street food from Veracruz and sampled the octopus tacos, shark flautas, and Mexican shrimp cocktail.
After that we took a drink break in a Uruguayan bar/bakery and slowly made our way to a Nepalese cafe, where we had soup dumplings, sliced meat with cardomon, and a vegetarian plate that included flattened rice.
After doing some grocery shopping in a Indian supermarket and then drinking some fresh sugar cane juice from a street vendor, we ended up in a bar that had Latin inspired cocktails and Latin Jazz.
It was a satisfying end to a weekend that made me realize that we need to relish our relationships and the time that we have together on this imperfect but wonderful earth. š
