Should I stay or should I go?
Hmmm. Moving, moving, moving. It keeps drawing me.
List of potential locations:
Tokyo / Japan
Advantage - really cool places to go, great food, chance to write about the underground Japanese music scene, would get a relatively well paying job
Disadvantage - don't know anyone, don't speak Japanese, expensive
Montreal
Advantage - cheap housing, cultural capital of Canada - lots of cool things happening, I'm bi-lingual - increases job opportunities
Disadvantage - cold winters, possiblity of little work
New York
advantage - cultural capital of the world, a bazillion things to do.. a lot of people I'd like to meet in the art/cultural world live in New York, lots of potential publications to write for, ability to see obscure bands/films unlike any other English speaking place
disadvantage - other country, difficult to get working visa, know few people, have no idea about housing, etc. jobs? who knows?
Paris -
Advantage - la francais, the Seine, incredible cuisine, some of the best museums/architecture in the world, there's 1 semetary in Paris where nearly all my heroes are buried. Fluent in the language.
Disadvantage - must raise $$$ before I can go there, don't know anyone, but would be uber-cool
Seattle
Advantage - full of rock-rock-rock-tastic people. apparently it's not that difficult to get a job.
Disadvantage - probably in the end too similar to where I live now in some ways to have an impact.
Los Angeles
Advantage - know some people, lots of stuff going on, sunny weather.
Disadvantage - need a car. and I'd be the classic "person writing screenplay in LA" person that I don't wanna be.
Victoria
Advantage - not very far too go. know half the city. have a partial degree of fame, connections, power in this local.
Disadvantage - few jobs, little cultural activity, been here awhile, know too many people, little chance for change and growth.
Any suggestions? Or cool ways to live in any of the above places and score a job?
