As well as my podcast, and my weirdo Tumblr, I also do a different Tumblr blog about eggs benedict. It's called Emulsify Your Life or ILoveEggsBenedict.tumblr.com.
News about me. I got a new job, working evenings, so beginning Monday I'm going to be quite the busy boy.
I've enabled a handy Firefox plugin called Leechblock, that I'm hoping is going to drastically improve my productivity by limiting my access to Twitter, Facebook, Suicidegirls, etc, during certain times of the day.
I'm trying to cut down on my TV watching.. while living in China it kind of spiraled drastically out of control, along with a bunch of other things. I just finished reading Katherine Dunn's "Geek Love", which was pretty great, although it could have been a bit weirder. It's no "Secret Rendezvous." As you may know the head office / store of the Drawn & Quarterly comics publishing house is located here in Montreal and it's not too far from my house. I did a mini-shopping spree there and my other local used English bookstore.. between that and a recent trip to Chapters (shhh) I picked up:
- The Orange Eats Creeps- Grace Krilanovich
(picked up based on the Steve Erickson (auth. of Rubicon Beach) forward and that it's about gutterpunk hobo teenage junkie vampires who have weird sex and go to GG Allin shows. ZakSmith - you should get your agent to put you in the movie.
- A Confederacy of Dunces - John Kennedy O'Toole
(meaning to read this forever and promised a British playwright that I met in Spain that I'd read this after she found out I'd picked up Cloud Atlas instead while I was in Leon)
- Krakow Melt - Daniel Allen Cox
(local writer who's a friend on Facebook - the book has been well-reviewed and the storyline about the fall of the Berlin Wall, a dying pope, and bisexual artist pyromaniacs is right up my alley)
- Design as Art - Bruno Munari
(because it looked really cool and to compliment The Elements of Typographic Style that I'm currently reading. Also it might help with some things I'd like to design / projects I'm working on.)
- Kingdom Come - J.G. Ballard
(it's Ballard, do I need a reason? One of the few books of his I haven't read, on generous loan from my neighbour Pumpkin)
- Chronic City - Jonathan Lethem
(the cover was good, the description sounded decent, I read a good review of it awhile ago and it smelled like book)
- Pussy, King of the Pirates - Kathy Acker
(I've read this book before, loved it, and couldn't resist a used copy. In 2003 I made a shirt featuring the Principles of Piracy for a now long-archived SG. She made me a pirate-themed journal.)
- Whips and Whipmaking, 2nd Edition - David W. Morgan
(I have a friend who runs and independent circus school and I'm thinking about taking up whip tricks.)
Random:
My current goals are lowering my body fat % and paying off debt.
I'm developing a strong fondness for oatmeal.
My time in China has made me so grateful for how beautiful the sky is in my country.
I need to find someone cool to do shrooms with.
I am considering going back to school to study applied communications.
I bought a tea today that's supposed to encourage lucid dreams.
I miss eating tapas while walking around Spain and surrounding by spontaneous outpourings of community.
I wish I had more friends free in the daytime to prevent my small bouts of loneliness.
