It feels nice to be in love. It's something that I haven't felt in quite a long time. Despite being a chronic dater I've had very few what I term "serious" relationships. Those relationships although weren't super long and were fraught with difficulties.. I was younger, more fucked up, less certain of what I want. Now that I'm older, less fucked up, fairly certain of what I want.. well then I was having difficulty finding it. I am a picky bastard.
So now I'm waiting for my girlfriend to arrive from out of town.. feeling like I'm in the last stretch of purgatory. The last few weeks she hasn't been here have felt like sitting in a doctor's waiting room... tic tock, tick tock..
Even though my mood has been a bit flatline - one must improve of course. So lately I've been trying to discover some amazing new music, and I've been fortunate to have a few nice hits. Heavy in rotation have been Brett Smiley a quite obscure glam rocker from the UK who put out a few singles and then finally had his full album (from the early 70s). It's pretty, theatric and wonderful.. not since Jobriath have I had such a fun discovery. It makes me want to mince around the stage.
The other big ticket item in terms of rotation is Lalo Schifrin.. an Argentine composer. I first got turned on to him by his soundtrack to the Marquis de Sade, an unusual, but effective blend of baroque and jazz music. Turns out he also did an amazing Italo-esque disco soundtrack for Black Widow that's also great. If you look him up he's done the soundtrack for a lot of classic films (Cool Hand Luke, Bullitt, Dirty Harry, Enter the Dragon).
I also found an amazing Russian tv miniseries of "the Master and Margarita" which I've been enjoying thoroughly.
Otherwise I've been trying to save cash, make a bit of extra money, reading books about fish and advanced sexual technique, and making plans for my coming travels with Pygmy.
