I thought that last entry might be source of some nostalgia camp-moment comments, but perhaps not.
What have I been up to? Glad you asked.
Last night I went to see a presentation of 'Quills' at the Mainline Theatre, with my dear goth-queen friend Tifany. (I know it's a funny name for a goth). I do love De Sade dearly, who isn't gay for the dirty ol' Marquis really? So the play was quite fun.
Otherwise most of my time has been devoted to new hobbies (bonzai), and future planning. I'm taking courses at Concordia in the fall, but I'm doing it as a visiting student from UVic, so of course it has all the requisite complications. Then there's the matter of what I'm going to do with myself next year.. so many possibilities.. but things are all coming together like clockwork.. I feel like the Ticktockman out of a Harlan Ellison short story "a soft purring man when things went timewise." Courses should include German literature, intensive beginner's Spanish, and two art history courses - one of the decline of Venice (how I do love cities in decline) and the other on the architecture of the home and the philosophy of space. We get to read Bachelard for the course.. he's my favorite.
I've found a few new willing tango partners, so once I'm back from Paris (leaving in '2 sleeps' as my sister would say) I'll be burning up Montreal milonga's in style. Hipster parties are getting to be all the same (though the music's good) and like any good neophile I crave difference.
I recently finished reading a book by Michel Houellebecq.. "The Elementary Particles" - amazingly written, but remarkably dreary in a way. I think I enjoyed Hilary Raphael's "I *heart* Lord Buddha" more... but they're drastically different book.. one celebrates youth, one bemoans age.. well I intend to participate in the November Novel writing month so perhaps I'll finally have a tome of my own on the shelves soon. I have the title already.
Otherwise I attended this amazing vernissage in the old port (of all places) tonight.. it was fantastically morbid.. and there was some pretty amazing works. I fell in love with an $8000 painting of a ventriloquist dressed in what appeared to be vintage S & M gear with his translucent insides showing parroting a bizarre vintage automaton. Since I didn't have 8 grand in spare change in my pocket, I bought a book of the artist's.. not quite the same, but it did produce a handsome savings of 7970 dollars.
Tell me your poor, your tired, your huddled, your excited, your melacholy, your amazing adventures and dreams.
