What did I do last night?
Well I dragged my ass to the massive (seriously I didn't realize how big it was until I was inside) Bell Centre for a concert extravaganza.
Since I don't like most things that all obscenely popular it's an odd experience for me to be in a massive stadium crowd all riled up and drunk. (although I passed on the 9.25 plastic cup of beer.. what ?!!?!)
The Foo Fighters were opening acoustic.. and yes.. they were pretty awful. I haven't heard a Foo Fighters song since I was about 15 or so.. but god.. Grohl's lyrics are terrible and the songs are really just.. well let's just say I didn't enjoy it. The only highlight of the set was when he introduced his band and I realized one of the guitarists was Pat Smear who played this dissonant scratch of a one-note solo. I wanted to shout.. get Grohl off the stage and give Smear a goddamn electric guitar and let me have at it! But instead I was "treated" to Grohl headbanging to his own acoustic rendition of some forgettable song.
But then.. I wasn't there to see the Foo Fighters.. I was there to see motherfucking Bob Dylan.
Yeah.. Dylan, man. Dylan. He came out on the stage and rocked the keyboards all night long (with a bit of harmonica to boot) - he never even looked at so much as touched a guitar, which I'm sure pissed of the "Blowin' in the Wind" geezers in attendance.. instead he bopped and rocked his way through zany live arrangements of the hits (pretty much all the hits) and tore through a couple of the new songs. I was actually hoping he'd play more stuff from his last three (really really terrific) albums... but no bones. I don't know why people are whining about his voice- it's gritty and vicious and his phrasing was as strange as ever.. occasionely it would be halfway into something before you'd realize he was playing "Stuck Inside of Mobile With the Memphis Blues Again."
And I never thought I'd say this about Dylan.. but man he can really rock those keys.
Awesome, awesome show.

Oh, I guess you're one of those people who thinks everyone should chill out? And hey, there's a lot to be said for chilling out. But honestly? You know SFA about what my life is like right now. I think I'm allowed a moment of spazzery every so often. Thanks.
