Okay it's time to get serious.
But not sober.
Never, ever sober. Especially after buying some ambrosiac apple cider with a high alcohol content and a scotch-like feel to it.. amazing.
In other news, a few not so salient, albeit brief reviews:
X-Men 3 - the Last Stand - Entertaining, but they should have adapted the Grant Morrison material in my opinion.. congrats for killing off characters, which invariably means they will do a prequel rather than a sequel if they continue.
the Libertine - Decadent, delicious, debauched, Depp, I want to smother myself in the 4D bosom of this film, which is coated in a layer of filth that should be more commonly found in period drama. I'm going to have to pickup a book of the Earl's poetry - perhaps the Hunter S. Thompson of the reign of Charles the 2nd.
Infinite Jest - It's rarely I've read something so well-written and yet so banal - not enthralling enough to be entertaining, not deep or heartfelt enough to be meaningful, David Foster Wallace attempts to be a jack of all trades, but masters none.
Yoga for People That Can't Be Bothered To Do It - I read an intriguing review of his book "the Ongoing Moment" but this book was the one the library had. A series of travel essays by a 40-something stoner intellectual are funny, interesting and sometimes poignant - not perfect, but a satisfying read. More about the author than the location this Geoff Dyer book is generally worth the read.. but I'm a sucker for travel writing.
Jubilee - Coming into contact with any Derek Jarman film is a 3 step process 1) exposure = intrigue 2) locating = excitement 3) watching = disappointment.
the Science of Sleep - I hate romantic movies, but that said when one is done very well I do love them. (Before Sunrise) - Gondry's newest is a stunner full of playful creativity and honest emotions. The acting too is wonderful and whatever you're orientation if you're arty you'll probably fall for Gael Garca Bernal or Charlotte Gainsbourg a little bit. Only about 1 million times better than the somewhat overrated "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind." His two new projects (check IMDB and check out the writing credits) look very good.
Little Miss Sunshine - Very enjoyable though it seemed a little short - I felt a bit more could have happened, a bit more scope was perhaps in order, but the film is very very funny, and at times a bit moving.
Spectres of the Spectrum - downloaded from the excellent GPod torrent source (which magically knows what I've been meaning to watch and magically provides it all the time) this film is so me I should have made it. Fans of RAW, members of my CoW group, and all those who love the weird sci-fi and occult will like this little seen gem. Highly recommend (and obscure! impress your friends! )
Frank Sinatra - In the Wee Small Hours - A lesser known Sinatra album is perfect sad music to play as your stroll through rainy, sad streets late at night. Has a dark Scott Walker kind of feel, except with Sinatra and more weepy jazz standards.
Joanna Newsom - Ys. - The most tender and eye-watering album (and live performance) since the first Antony & the Johnsons album. Your heartstrings will become taut and elegantly plucked.
New York Dolls - One Day It Will Please Us to Remember Even This - By all the laws of music, reformed bands, what is right in the universe and so on this album should be terrible.. but it's really quite good. Not at the level of the original Dolls material, but try to imagine this album under any other band's moniker and you'd find yourself rocking out. "Dance Like a Monkey" has me eating bananas and doing the ultra-twist. I'm surprised as anyone else that Johansen still has some juice in his twisted old rocker's body. Though it pains me to say it - Morrisey was right. (grrr)
Coming soon.. Only Revolutions, Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Children of Paradise, the Black Pirate, and live performances by Kenneth Anger, the Slits, the Apes, the Tiger Lillies, Lesbians on Ecstasy, Numbers, and Bob Dylan.

I liked most of Jubilee... granted, it sorta runs out of fuel at the end.... but I do love Jordan so, Ms. Amyl Nitrate.

Exactly! "Rule Britannia" is the segment of the movie I bootlegged, sort of a music video moment. I like the cackling mad-ass bald guy, too. The movie could've used more a that.
