This doesn't make any sense. I feel like a social leper. I don't know it just seems like I'm getting off on the wrong foot or something every time I meet someone / do something.
Despite the fact that I've been to 5 shows in a week and seen 11 (yes 11) bands play in 8 days. They are: David P. Smith, opening guy who's name I can't remember, Amy Honey, Carolyn Mark, Clay George, Shoplifting, King Cobra, Erase Errata, David Chenery, Chet, Smog, Fernwood Society for Difficult Music, and Robots on Fire. Shit that's 13. Yikes.
Anyways I've been working every day this week (incl. weekends) going to class and partying and seeing all these shows.. but I'm still feeling out of touch.. disconnected. Don't know why. So I'm re-reading How to Win Friends and Influence People again. The tips are good, but it makes me feel like such a lame-o geek to read it.. anyways..
About the shows - some were amazing! Smog blew me away (I took pics so they'll go up eventually) and he played all my favorite songs of his except one. (Goldfish Bowl) Robots on Fire were about 5x better than I would have expected - they played some Sun Ra, Albert Ayler, and Bronkski Beat! Hah! It was great free jazz. .. easily one of the best shows of the year. Erase Errata were a rockin' good time. 80's night with Tiamat and the crew was also sweet.
CFUV is my radio station.. my show's tomorrow night at 10:30-midnight PST for those who wish to tune in.. don't know what I'll play yet. And yes.. we webcast.
Now back to my women in art paper.. well hopefully I'll get back to it.
Oh.. if people have advice or wish to relate a personal anecdote on social leperdom I open my journal to thee -
